Where is that piece of paper?
It seems to me the ‘paperless society’ due to computers hasn’t happened yet!
So let’s deal with the paper we do have.
Paper overwhelms many people, quite often due to indecision and a lack of simple systems.
So much time can be wasted looking for that one piece of paper that is ....'somewhere.'

'The pile of paper'
|
As it was... |
|
As it became! |
This pile of papers may seem exaggerated to some but to others it’s quite a reality, especially if every piece of paper lying around the house ....or the home office....or the business office was gathered up.
So what did we do?
- Asking questions like:
Do I still need this / is it applicable in my life now?
Can I access this information somewhere else?
- Helped us decide:
What to keep
What to throw / recycle / shred
- Remember, having a file marked ‘Sentimental’ helps with those favourite cards and letters that you really want to keep. Or store them in a special box elsewhere.
- Filing cabinets are great inventions, best used to file papers, not as dumping grounds!!
- The manilla folders which hold each specific group of papers were labelled with a texta pen, to be obvious, as were the tabs that head up the topic.
- Coloured tabs were used in some instances to indicate more than one file for a similar area, for example, car insurances, car maintenance, car registrations all in yellow tabs.
- We filed in alphabetical order as one option but in some cases, we file by areas of life. For example, business / property / investments in one drawer; personal / family / household paperwork in another drawer.
- Once the system is set up, simply “FINISH THE JOB.” It’s my favourite saying! Put the piece of paper where it has to go, now!
- The result: A stress free, simple way to keep your paperwork, so you’ll know exactly where to put it and where to find it. No more piles to sort through!
